Which GCC destinations can we truck to?
We coordinate road freight from the UAE to all five other GCC states, using the official crossings that suit your cargo and destination.
| Destination | Usual crossing from the UAE | Indicative door-to-door time from Dubai | Notes |
|---|
| Oman (Muscat, Sohar) | Hatta, Khatmat Malaha, Al Madam and other UAE–Oman crossings | about 1–3 days | Busiest overland link in 2026 |
| Saudi Arabia (Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah) | Ghuwaifat (UAE) – Batha (KSA) | about 3–6 days to Riyadh or Dammam; longer to Jeddah | SABER certificates for regulated goods |
| Qatar (Doha) | Via Saudi Arabia, then Salwa – Abu Samra | about 3–6 days | Saudi transit formalities apply |
| Kuwait | Via Saudi Arabia | about 4–8 days | Two border stages |
| Bahrain | Via Saudi Arabia and the King Fahd Causeway | about 3–6 days | Causeway queues vary |
Times are planning ranges that include border formalities. They vary with queues, holidays and inspections and are confirmed for each load.
Why has overland trucking grown in 2026?
Because the Strait of Hormuz has been largely closed to mainline container ships since about 1 March 2026, road links have become a main way to move cargo between the UAE and its neighbours.
The National reported that UAE–Oman corridors became vital for essential cargo, with customs declarations rising from about 12,000 in March 2026 to about 100,000 the following month (The National, 22 May 2026). Higher volumes mean truck availability and border queues change quickly, so we book early and post the expected crossing date in your case file. See the lane status board.
What documents does a GCC truck shipment need?
You need the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin, plus the customs declarations for export, transit and import that licensed brokers file on the way.
- Commercial invoice and packing list with matching descriptions, HS codes, values and weights.
- Certificate of origin: goods of GCC national origin can qualify for duty-free treatment with a valid GCC origin certificate; goods of foreign origin follow the destination's rules.
- Declarations: UAE export or transit declaration, a transit declaration for each country crossed, and the import declaration at destination (in Saudi Arabia through the FASAH platform).
- Conformity certificates: Saudi Arabia requires SABER product and shipment certificates for regulated goods; other states have their own schemes.
- Permits for food, cosmetics, medicines, chemicals or other controlled goods.
See our Saudi Arabia import checklist.
How do customs and duties work between GCC countries?
The GCC has a common customs law and tariff, but each state still runs its own declarations, inspections and VAT.
Goods of foreign origin cleared in the UAE may face duty settlement or additional formalities in the destination state, depending on the goods, their origin and the declaration type. VAT rates also differ: for example 5% in the UAE and Oman, 15% in Saudi Arabia and 10% in Bahrain; confirm the current rate with the destination tax authority. We confirm the customs treatment for each load with the licensed brokers before the truck is loaded, so the cost sheet shows duties and taxes as estimates, not surprises.
What affects transit time and cost?
Border waiting, truck type and the documents' readiness affect a road shipment more than distance does.
- Truck type: flatbed, curtain-side, closed box or reefer; low-bed trailers for heavy or out-of-gauge cargo on request.
- FTL or LTL: a full truck is faster and simpler; part loads are possible on some routes, subject to availability.
- Weight limits: axle-weight and gross-weight rules differ by country and can be lower than a container's sea limit.
- Waiting time: detention of the truck at a border or at the consignee's site is charged per day after the agreed free hours.
- Calendars: weekends and public holidays such as Eid slow border processing.
How do we keep you updated on the road?
Your case file shows each stage, from truck assigned to delivered, with the time and the name of the person who updated it.
Our operations team posts the truck plate and driver details, departure, each border crossing and the delivery, and your coordinator messages you on WhatsApp if a load is held. Updates are made by our team from haulier and border information; we do not offer live GPS tracking in Phase 1.
