These are the same stages you will see in your case file in the customer portal.
We compare discharge ports and road options and screen the parties and goods.
You approve an itemised quote with each leg and surcharge shown separately.
Invoice, packing list and other documents are uploaded and checked against the routing.
We post the vessel, the planned discharge port and the ETA.
Discharge is confirmed, the transit declaration is opened and the truck collects the container.
We update the case at each customs point or border until the bonded move is closed.
Import clearance or re-export is completed, the cargo is delivered and the empty is returned.
Your quote itemises every charge, so you can see exactly what is covered before you approve it.
It is a single shipment that uses a ship for the main leg and a truck for the onward leg, with the documents, customs status and timing of both legs planned together.
Typical combinations on our corridors are China to a UAE east-coast port and then bonded truck to Jebel Ali; Jebel Ali to Umm Qasr by feeder or RoRo and then truck inland in Iraq; and sea to the UAE followed by trucking to Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait or Bahrain.
Because most mainline container ships have not transited the Strait of Hormuz since about 1 March 2026, so cargo for Jebel Ali is often discharged outside the Strait and finishes its journey by road (Freightos).
| Discharge port | Location | Onward to Jebel Ali | Reported median anchorage wait, 2–8 Aug 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Khor Fakkan (AEKLF) | UAE east coast | Bonded truck under Dubai Customs Notice 03/2026 | about 4.8 days |
| Fujairah | UAE east coast | Bonded truck under Dubai Customs Notice 03/2026 | about 9.3 days |
| Sohar (OMSOH) | Oman | Cross-border bonded truck referred to in carrier advisories from April 2026 | about 4.6 days |
Waiting times come from a Nautica Post report of 14 August 2026 and change week to week; we check the current position for every booking and keep the lane status board dated.
The container travels from the east-coast port to Jebel Ali under customs control, without paying UAE duty at the first port, and the bill of lading keeps Jebel Ali as the final destination.
This summary follows Al Tamimi & Company's note on the notice and is not legal advice; read our bonded trucking guide for detail.
For Iraq, the sea leg usually ends at Umm Qasr, and trucks take the cargo inland to Basra, Baghdad or other cities.
From Jebel Ali, container feeders and DP World's RoRo service (announced in 2023 at about 36 hours at sea) serve Umm Qasr, and these sailings do not pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Cargo for the Kurdistan Region often moves by sea to Mersin in Türkiye and then overland through the Ibrahim Khalil crossing. Every route needs Iraq's 2026 paperwork: a registered importer, an ASYCUDA declaration, e-verified certificates of origin and invoices, and a COC for regulated goods; see shipping from Dubai to Iraq.
Expect the road leg, any carrier contingency or war-risk surcharges, and possibly longer waiting before discharge; each one appears as a separate, dated line in your quote.
We agree every hand-over point before the cargo sails, because most problems happen between the ship and the truck.
A typical checklist. Your coordinator confirms the exact list for your cargo and destination, and you upload everything in the portal.
Every shipment is screened against applicable sanctions lists and checked for restricted or prohibited goods before booking. Some routes and commodities need extra documents or cannot be accepted.

Answers to the questions customers ask most about Multimodal sea + land transport.
Since about 1 March 2026 most mainline carriers have not transited the Strait of Hormuz, so they discharge Dubai-bound cargo at east-coast ports such as Khor Fakkan or Fujairah. Under Dubai Customs Notice 03/2026 the container can then be trucked in bond to Jebel Ali.
Not for a bonded move to Jebel Ali under Notice 03/2026. Duty and VAT are settled when the goods are cleared at Jebel Ali, or not at all if they enter the free zone or are re-exported.
Either the carrier, usually with a contingency surcharge, or Nil Ocean on your behalf. We agree which option applies before the cargo sails and show the cost as a separate line.
The drive itself is short, but truck availability, gate queues and customs formalities decide the total. Plan for anywhere from hours to a few days, and add any anchorage waiting before discharge; we confirm the range for your booking.
Yes. Common options are a feeder or RoRo from Jebel Ali to Umm Qasr followed by trucking inland, or sea to Mersin and overland through Ibrahim Khalil for the Kurdistan Region. We compare the options in your quote.
We record the change and its reason in your case file, confirm the new trucking plan and costs, and ask for your approval before any new charge is added.

Multimodal sea + land transport moves your container by ship to a hub port and then by truck to its final destination under one coordinated plan. In 2026 it is how much Dubai-bound cargo arrives: discharged at Khor Fakkan, Fujairah or Sohar, then trucked in bond to Jebel Ali under Dubai Customs Notice 03/2026. Nil Ocean Shipping confirms the discharge port, the trucking arrangement and free time before departure and records each leg in your case file.
Dubai Customs Notice 03/2026 lets containers discharged at Khor Fakkan or Fujairah travel to Jebel Ali by road under customs bond, with Jebel Ali kept as the final destination. This guide explains the steps, who pays, what happens to duty and VAT, and where bonded moves go wrong.

From Dubai you can reach Iraq in three main ways: a container feeder from Jebel Ali to Umm Qasr, a RoRo service for vehicles, machinery and trailers, or overland trucking through Saudi Arabia. Sea routes are usually the simpler choice for containers into southern and central Iraq; trucks suit specific door-to-door cases. In 2026 the bigger risk is Iraqi clearance: ASYCUDA, e-verified documents and the COC.

Cargo from China reaches Iraq by sea to Umm Qasr, by sea to Jebel Ali and then feeder, RoRo or truck, or by sea to Türkiye and overland to the north. This guide compares the three routes, how the 2026 Hormuz disruption changed them, what drives cost and how to choose.
