In practice: the shipper hands the original B/Ls back to the carrier at origin, usually once the buyer has paid. The carrier marks them as surrendered and tells its destination office to release the cargo, so the consignee can obtain the delivery order with a copy. It saves courier time and avoids cargo arriving before the paperwork, but it is not a separate document type: it is the original B/L, surrendered. Carriers usually charge a small fee for it.
Example: a supplier in Guangzhou receives the balance payment and asks the line for a telex release. The Dubai importer gets the delivery order on the day the vessel arrives instead of waiting for originals by courier, which protects the free time.

A telex release is the carrier's instruction to its destination office to release cargo without an original bill of lading, after the originals have been surrendered at origin.
