In practice: THC covers moving the container between the ship, the yard and the gate. Depending on the Incoterm and the quote, origin THC may be inside the seller's price while destination THC is paid by the buyer locally. Port-to-port quotes that leave out destination THC are a classic source of “surprise” charges on arrival, so check which side of the line each THC sits on.
Example: an importer buying CFR Jebel Ali still pays the destination THC and delivery order fee in Dubai, even though the supplier “paid the freight”. In our quotes each THC line is marked included, excluded or pass-through at cost.

A terminal handling charge (THC) is the fee for handling a container at a port terminal, charged separately at origin (OTHC) and at destination (DTHC).
