Most lanes can be served in more than one way. The right choice depends on your deadline, budget and destination documents.
| Option | Transit (indicative) | Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| FCL from Jebel Ali on a feeder, transshipment to Dar es Salaam | Indicatively 16–28 days | No road leg in the UAE; documents issued as usual at Jebel Ali | Two vessels and a hub port can add days and change the arrival date |
| Truck to Khor Fakkan or Fujairah, FCL to Dar es Salaam | Indicatively 14–24 days, plus 1–3 days for the road leg | Loads outside the Strait of Hormuz | Trucking cost, earlier cut-off and customs-transit paperwork for free-zone goods |
| LCL consolidated in JAFZA | Add about 1–2 weeks for consolidation | Pay per cubic metre and combine several suppliers in one shipment | More handling, destination warehouse charges and less predictable dates |
| Through Dar es Salaam to Zambia, Malawi or Rwanda | The inland leg adds days to weeks | One sea route serves several landlocked markets | Transit declaration, bond and border formalities; inland cover confirmed case by case |

Status and facts as of 1 November 2026. Conditions change quickly: check our lane status board before you book.
Most cargo leaves from Jebel Ali or Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) and is discharged at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's main port and the start of two inland transit corridors.
| Leg | Main points (UN/LOCODE) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| UAE origin | Jebel Ali (AEJEA) and JAFZA warehouses; Khor Fakkan (AEKLF) on the east coast | In 2026 many sailings load outside the Gulf or connect through a hub |
| Tanzanian port | Dar es Salaam (TZDAR) | Run by the Tanzania Ports Authority |
| Central Corridor | Rwanda, Burundi, eastern DR Congo and Uganda | Road transit under customs control |
| Dar es Salaam corridor | Zambia and Malawi | Road, or the TAZARA railway to Zambia |
Some services from the Gulf call at Dar es Salaam directly and others connect through a hub port, so we confirm the vessel, any transshipment port and the expected arrival on your booking.
Jebel Ali lies inside the Gulf, and since about 1 March 2026 most mainline container ships have not transited the Strait of Hormuz, so Tanzania-bound boxes leave on a feeder from Jebel Ali or are trucked to Khor Fakkan or Fujairah for loading.
Before you book, we confirm in writing the loading port, the cut-off, who arranges and pays for any truck to the east coast, and where the empty container is collected. Free-zone goods move to the loading port under customs control, so the re-export declaration must be ready before the truck leaves. See our Hormuz advisory.
The importer needs a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), the commercial documents, a TBS certificate of conformity for regulated products and any sector permits, and a licensed clearing agent files the declaration in TANCIS.
Rates change with Tanzania's Finance Acts and EAC decisions, so confirm them for your HS codes and see our Tanzania import checklist.
It does not change the origin: Chinese goods stored or consolidated in Dubai stay Chinese origin, so keep each supplier's certificate of origin.
The invoice and packing list are issued for the sale to the Tanzanian buyer, and the consignee name and TIN must be identical on the bill of lading, invoice and declaration. For consolidated loads we check one container packing list against every supplier's invoice before loading. See re-export from Jebel Ali to East Africa.
Routing out of Dubai, transshipment and Dar es Salaam port and clearance charges move the landed cost as much as the ocean rate.
Your quote lists every line separately with a validity date, and any new charge needs your approval.
Most delays come from system outages, documents that do not match and free time, and each has a simple control.
| Risk | How we reduce it |
|---|---|
| TANCIS or TeSWS outage: an outage of more than a week was reported in April 2024 (The Citizen) | We record it as an external blocker on your case, which supports any waiver request |
| Release not reaching the port system on time | Your coordinator follows the release with the agent and terminal |
| TBS certificate missing on arrival | We check the HS codes against the regulated list before booking |
| Consignee name or TIN differs between documents | We compare the draft bill of lading with the invoice and declaration |
| Change of loading port, transshipment or cut-off | We confirm each in writing and update the case when it changes |
We don't publish fixed prices because rates change every week. These are the charges that commonly appear on this lane; your quote shows which ones apply to your shipment.
The price we quote is the price you pay. If a carrier, port or authority adds a charge later, we show it in your case file and ask for your approval before billing.
Common questions about Shipping from the UAE to Tanzania.
Indicatively about 14–28 days port to port in 2026, because many services load outside the Gulf or transship at a hub port. Clearance in Dar es Salaam and inland delivery come on top. We confirm the vessel, any transshipment port and the expected arrival on your booking.
VAT on mainland imports is 18%, charged on the customs value plus duty and any excise, and other levies are calculated separately on the customs value. Zanzibar applies its own VAT rules, so tell us if the goods are for Zanzibar.
No. Only products on the Tanzania Bureau of Standards' regulated list need a certificate of conformity, and it should be issued in the exporting country before shipment. We check your HS codes against the list before the container is booked.
It depends on the final destination: Dar es Salaam serves Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Burundi and parts of DR Congo, while Mombasa is the usual gateway for Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan. We compare routing, transit time and inland costs for your cargo.
Yes, transit cargo can move under customs control along the Dar es Salaam and Central corridors, usually with a transit declaration and a bond, and the destination country's rules apply on arrival. Ask your coordinator which inland destinations we currently cover.
Terminals and carriers usually still bill storage and demurrage, and any waiver depends on their terms. We record the outage as the delay cause on your case, which supports a waiver request, and keep a buffer before free time ends.

Open. Jebel Ali lies inside the Gulf, and most mainline container ships have avoided the Strait of Hormuz since about 1 March 2026, so Tanzania cargo leaves on a feeder from Jebel Ali or is trucked to Khor Fakkan or Fujairah for loading, sometimes with transshipment. We confirm the loading port and routing in writing before you ship.

Cargo from Dubai to Tanzania goes by sea to Dar es Salaam, as a full container or as LCL consolidated in Jebel Ali Free Zone. In 2026 port-to-port time is indicatively 14–28 days, because many sailings now load outside the Gulf or connect through a transshipment hub. The Tanzanian importer needs a TIN, a TBS certificate of conformity for regulated goods and a licensed clearing agent to file the declaration in TANCIS.
